Nokia OS

Nokia OS is the operating system of many Nokia cell phones and has already been installed in more than 1.5 billion devices. Nokia OS is the basis of the "Series 30" and "Series 40" (S40) from the same manufacturer. The S40 operating system is used by Nokia alongside Symbian OS, Maemo and Windows Phone. S40 requires an ARM processor and enables mobile communication with the GSM, UMTS and CDMA2000 standards.

S40 does not support true multitasking, and there is no direct programming interface( API) available, but programming MIDlets with Java 2 Micro Edition( J2ME) is possible. The screen resolution is 128 x 128 pixels, 240 x 320 pixels in Quarter- VGA( QVGA) or 320 x 480 pixels in Half-VGA ( HVGA). On individual Nokia cell phones, S40 also enables touchscreen operation.

S40's standard software includes an XHTML browser and a mail program with Post Office Protocol (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol( IMAP), but without linking to other applications. Synchronization Markup Language (SyncML) can be used to synchronize PersonalInformation Manager ( PIM) data such as addresses, calendars or e-mails with other end devices.
