advanced audio distribution profile (Bluetooth) (A2DP)

The Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) is a Bluetooth profile for streaming audio data.

With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, audio devices such as audio amplifiers, multimedia players or MP3 players can transmit their audio data in stereo to the speaker, headphones or earphones. The A2DP profile compresses the audio signal using SBC coding with a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz and higher.

The A2DP profile is additionally complemented by the AVRCP profile. This profile also allows playing music tracks from the cell phone.
