conceptual schema modelling facility (CSMF)

The ISO/ IEC standard 14481, Conceptual Schema Modeling Facility (CSMF), describes a schematic architecture with different levels of abstraction for information within a conceptual schema.

The CSMF standard provides a mechanism for end users, system analysts, developers, and designers to communicate with each other on a formal basis.

The CSMF standard defines a set of normative constructs that can be used to adequately describe the conceptual schema of a modeling language. The set of constructs defined in CSMF is much richer than instruction sets of commonly used conceptual schema languages. Once defined in CSMF, the set of constructs can be used in the design of systems that compare the functionality of different conceptual schema languages, as well as for transforming conceptual models.
