fibre channel protocol (FCP)

The Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP) is a transport protocol for Fibre Channel( FC) with which data blocks can be transferred without delay.

The FCP protocol uses the command sets ofSCSI (Small ComputerSystem Interface) and applies them to Fibre Channel. The FCP protocol supports data transport in Fibre Channel from the end devices - workstations, mainframes - through the fabrics, to the storage systems.

The FCP protocol has been standardized by the X3T10 committee of ANSI. The entire FCP data frame is composed of the FC-2 header and the FCP header, which is followed by the SCSI data.
