fourier synthesis

A Fourier synthesis is used for sound synthesis, the generation of sounds from fundamental and harmonics. The basis for Fourier synthesis is the inverse Fourier transform, which transforms the signals from the frequency axis to the time axis.

According to the procedure, in a Fourier synthesis individual frequencies are filtered out of a frequency spectrum with many harmonics, changed in their amplitude and combined additively with other harmonics to form the desired sound image. If each individual harmonic can be changed in its amplitude and the temporal course, any sound image can be generated in this way.
