generic flow control (ATM) (GFC)

Generic Flow Control (GFC) is a four-bitdata field in the ATM cell.

Generic Flow Control (GFC) is used for access control in ATM LANs. The GFC data field can be used, among other things, to determine whether several stations share an ATM interface. The GFC field only has significance in the local area and is overwritten by switching equipment. In general, the GFC field is set to a default value.
