geostationary search and rescue (GEOSAR)
Geosar satellites are GEO satellites, Geostationary Earth Orbiter, which have a fixed position in relation to the Earth's surface. The position of Geosar satellites is above the equator at an altitude of 35,786 km.
The Geosar satellites receive the GPS signal of the emergency transmitter as the emergency signal and transmit the coordinates of the emergency victim to the ground station( LUT, Local User Terminal), from where it is forwarded to the rescue services. The response time is much shorter than that of the Leosar satellites and is only a few minutes.
