A guestbook is a book in which guests write messages, recommendations, comments and acknowledgements. On the web, these are electronic guest books. The entry is usually made with a name. And this is an important difference to chatting or blogs, where visitors are anonymous and use pseudonyms and nicknames.
On the Web, you can find guest books on many websites where users or customers enter their experiences with the provider and rate its services. Since the entries do not only signal approval, the website operator who bears responsibility for them should regularly check the entries and remove any that are unfair or do not correspond to the truth from the guestbook. Guestbooks should also not be used for online marketing.
From a technical point of view, a guestbook is a script written in Perl or Python. There are also various guestbooks that can be downloaded for free from the Internet.
