installable file system (file format) (IFS)

The Installable File System(IFS) is a Windows 95/98file system that can handle long file names of 255 characters.

The IFS file system is based on the File Allocation Table, which has been extended in length and provides previously unusable areas for information. The File Allocation Table( FAT) and the IFS file system are compatible with each other.
