inter repeater link (IRL)

The inter-repeater link (IRL) establishes a bidirectionalconnection between two remote repeaters on the physical layer.

link This link can be implemented by means of metallic cables, as with 10Base-T and when bridging greater distances by means of optical transmission technology. The corresponding specifications are defined in FOIRL.
