license management

License management is used to manage and monitor software licenses. Since software licenses are a business cost factor, managing, updating and optimizing them has a direct impact on operating costs and thus on company profits.

Generally, companies purchase software licenses in paper form and as media kits. In terms of licensing models, a distinction is made between named and concurrent licenses. Named licenses are tied to the number of users, regardless of whether and when the individual user launches an instance. Concurrent licenses, on the other hand, are a pool of licenses. The license is only required when an instance of the application is launched. It is more cost-effective because multiple users can be served. With these models, optimization through license management is already in place.

In addition to the optimization of usage costs, license management primarily includes software inventory. This can be done by scanning the individual personal computers(PCs) and workstations using software scanning, which is installed on each computer, or by agents, which are installed on the clients and monitor which software is started.
