measurement transformer

Measuring transducers differ from measuring transducers in that they transform an electrical quantity into the same electrical quantity. Most often, it is high electrical currents or voltages that are transformed into lower currents and voltages so that they can be measured by the measuring equipment.

Instrument transformers can be transformers that operate as voltage transform ers or current transform ers, but they can also be attenuators or voltage dividers that transform a high potential voltage into a lower voltage, or instrumentation amplifiers that amplify a low voltage into a high voltage.

The term instrument transformers is predominantly used by current transformers and voltage transformers. Voltage transformers are mostly used in high voltage installations to keep high voltages away from the measuring place. Current transformers are used in low-voltage installations in order to be able to use measuring instruments with smaller measuring ranges. Both current transformers and voltage transformers are used to galvanically isolate the measuring device from the measuring circuit.

Instrument transformers fulfill certain accuracy classes. To ensure that this is maintained, the load must not be too great. The load of the transformers is also called load.
