Unlike Girogo from the Savings Bank Association, the Paypass credit card does not have to be loaded with a credit amount. However, it can also be used only for paying small amounts. During the payment process, the NFC credit card is held just a few centimeters in front of the NFC terminal and activated by it.
Paywave is accepted by some restaurant chains and gas stations and is trying to establish itself on the market like the competing NFC card systems from Girogo and Paywave. Mastercard also offers a store locator so that customers know where they can pay with Paypass.
