personal system/2 (PS/2)

The PersonalSystem/2 are workstation computers from IBM. The PS/2 series was launched in 1987 and had the 32 bit wide MCA bus as bus system. As operating system the PS/2 computers had the multitasking operating systemOS/2.

The PS/2 computers supported up to 16 MB RAM and used Intel's 80386 as central processing unit. The graphics display was limited to the VGA format at the introduction.

In addition to the MCA bus system, the OS/2 operating system, the PS/2 header for SIMM modules and DIMM modules, and the PS/2 interface are still used in other personal computers(PCs).

PS/2 computers were ultimately unable to establish themselves on the market because the disclosure of interfaces and buses was also handled very restrictively.
