Restore is the process of restoring files from a backup after a system failure or data loss. Mostly, it is about data and files that are kept on call and are of high actuality. They are usually stored on the primary storage. Restore procedures ensure the availability of data and programs.

Restore involves retrieving and restoring files by their description, label, name, or archiving date from backup. Restore can be controlled from the administrator, but it can also be user-controlled.

Restore strategies include centralizing data in one location, as managing data located in decentralized locations is much more costly. Wide Area File Service(WAFS) is a solution that can be used to centralize data in distributed locations.
