scanning velocity (CD) (SVY)

Scanning Velocity (SVY) is the rotational speed of compact discs(CDs) and DVDs in relation to the read head.

Scanning Velocity (SVY) is the speed at which the spiral track passes the read head. For compact discs, the scanning velocity is between 1.2 m/s and 1.4 m/s. For DVDs, the scanning velocity depends on the head speed. For DVDs, the scanning velocity depends on whether the disc is a single layer disc( SL), which has a speed of 3.49 m/s, or a double layer disc( DL), which has a scanning velocity of 3.84 m/s. The scanning velocity during rotation depends on the speed of the spiral track.

The rotation speed is measured at several points on the compact disc during rotation and readjusted. The deviations must not exceed 0.01 m/s.
