The Service-oriented Enterprise (SOE) is about reorganizing the enterprise. It is about creating increased collaboration between the enterprise and its customers, suppliers and other trading partners.

Through improved collaboration, the SOE enterprise results in greater efficiency, faster time to market for new products, lower costs, and improved flexibility and responsiveness. The attributes mentioned above represent the typical characteristics of a service-oriented enterprise.

The components of a service-oriented enterprise include the Service Oriented Infrastructure (SOI), the Service Oriented Architecture( SOA) and the Business Processes. While the service-oriented infrastructure is about orchestrating virtualized resources to reduce operating costs, the service-oriented architecture is about orchestrating software and data to improve flexibility, and the business process is about introducing new workflows.
