vCalendar

vCalendar defines a transport and platform independentfile format for the automatic exchange of calendar data and appointments. The vCalendar format contains information for meetings and to-do activities that is normally used by the PersonalInformation Manager( PIM).

With programs that use vCalendar, users can exchange appointments and other scheduling data. The open specifications are based on industry standards such as x/Open and the Scheduling API, the ISO 8601 international date and time standard, and the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension( MIME) for e-mail.

vCalendar consists of the iCalendar specification described in RFC 2445, the iCalendar Transport-Independent Interoperability Protocol (iTIP) that describes scheduling data, to-do lists, and journal entries in RFC 2446, and the iCalendar Message-based Interoperability Protocol (iMIP) from RFC 2447.
