virtual private network consortium (VPNC)

The Virtual Private Network Consortium (VPNC) is an association founded in 1999 with the goal of increasing the acceptance of virtual private networks( VPN). Members include IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, Juniper and many other well-known companies.

The VPNC promotes awareness and deployment of VPN products and ensures their interoperability. It promotes awareness of the technology and related standards. Topics covered by the VPNC include IP Security Protocol( IPsec), Layer 2 Tunneling Protoco( L2TP), Secure Socket Layer ( SSL) and Transport Layer Security( TLS), which are among the secure VPN protocols, and Multi-Protocol Label Switching( MPLS), which is among the trusted VPN protocols.
