white spaces coalition (WSC)

The White Spaces Coalition (WSC) is an association of large technology groups that want to use freed-up frequencies of analog terrestrial television for a super WLAN that will be deployed in cities. In rural areas, the same White Spaces are to be used for broadband services.

The White Spaces Coalition's concept relies on frequencies freed up by the switch from analog terrestrial TV to digital TV, such as the digital dividend. The White Spaces Coaltion expects data rates of 80 Mbit/s and above, and 400 Mbit/s to 800 Mbit/s for short-range networks. White Spaces Coalition members include Microsoft, Google, Dell, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Philips, Earthlink and Samsung.
