7 bit code
The 7-bit code, also known as the IA-5 alphabet, is the ASCII character set for representing a total of 128 alphanumeric characters, digits, special characters and control characters.
This code has been standardized internationally as a reference code under ISO/ IEC 646. The German reference was standardized by DIN under DIN 66003. In the 7-bit code, each character is represented with 7 bits. The characters are arranged in a code table and are defined by the column and line number. The numbering can be in binary or hexadecimal notation.
If the 7-bit code is represented in bytes, the missing eighth bit is supplemented by a check bit.
