Comité Européen de Normalisation Electrotechnique (CENELEC)

The Comité Europeen de Normalisation( CEN) is the European standardization institute in which all national standardization institutes are members. In terms of global standardization, CEN's interests are directed towards adopting ISO/IECstandards wherever possible.

Cenelec, Comité Européen de Normalisation Electrotechnique, is the European committee for electrotechnical standardization and the hub for standardization work in the European Union, whereby information technology has recently become much more important. Both organizations, CEN and also Cenelec, focus on information technology standardization and functional OSI standards. The Commission for Information Technology( KIT) of DIN participates in this organization as the German representative.

Cenelec maintains close cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute( ETSI), the International Electrotechnical Commission ( IEC), the Information Technology Steering Committee( ITSTC) and the European Workshop in Open Systems ( EWOS).
