D6 format

The D6 digital recording format is also called a gigabit recorder. As a magnetic tape, D6 uses a 19 mm tape on which up to 4.23 Tbit can be stored.

D6 can record HDTV, it has the highest resolution and a data rate of about 150 Mbit/s per channel. With 8 channels, this results in a total data rate of about 1.2 Gbit/s. As with all other recording formats, the audio signal is recorded in 4 audio channels, sampled at 48 kHz. The maximum playing time is 64 minutes.
