DOS protected mode interface (DPMI)

DOS Protected Mode Interface( DPMI) is a software interface via which the extended memory area of the XMS memory, Extended Memory Specifications (XMS), can be used in Protected Mode of the DOS operating system. This means that with the DOS Protected Mode Interface the memory area of the main memory of more than 1 megabyte( MB) can also be used.
