Ethernet to the home (ETTH)

Ethernet to the Home (ETTH) is a high-speed technology that realizes high data rates over broadband cable networks.

While Fiber to the Home( FTTH) and Fiber to the Premises( FTTP) focus on the transmission medium, Ethernet to the Home (ETTH) offers a more general approach by moving carrier networks from traditional circuit switching to data packet switching, including Ethernet. ETTH uses fiber optics in the backbone networks and acts as an Ethernet layer over which wireless technologies such as Wifi or WiMAX can be extended at will: Ethernet-Everywhere. ETTH is considered one of the most universal solution approaches for communication networks. In its early years, ETTH used the Ethernet Passive Optical Network( EPON).

ETTH was standardized by the IEEE802.3ahworking group, which renamed ETTH Ethernet in the First Mile( EFM) in 2004.
