IEEE 802.5
IEEE defines the IEEE 802.5/ ISO 8802.5 standard for Token Ring as a baseband transmission systemon STP cable with data rates of 1 Mbit/s and 4 Mbit/s, and on coaxial cable with 4 Mbit/s, 20 Mbit/s and 40 Mbit/s.
IBM supports the standardized method with 4 Mbit/s and its own variant with 16 Mbit/s on a mixture of STP and fiber optic.
Only a November 1988 addition to the IEEE standard has covered the 4/16 Mbit/s operation, Logical Link Control( LLC) Type 3 support, early token release procedures, station management, and management entity specification. Other topics include Voice Grade Media( UTP), Reconfiguration, Mutiple Rings, Conformance Testing, and Fiber Optics
