M4V file

M4V is a container format for videos developed by Apple, similar to MP4. Unlike MP4, the M4V format can be optionally protected by digital rights management( DRM) copy protection.

Apple uses the M4V format for encoding videos, movies and music videos for iTunes.

To play a copy-protected M4V file, it can be unlocked via iTunes using the purchase number. M4V files without copy protection can be played by other video players by changing the extension *.m4v to *,mp4.
