PC/104 module (PC/104)
PC/104 is a Computer on Module( COM) used in industrial computers. The PC/104 module works with ISA bus and has an approximately square format.
The PC/104 board was developed back in the 80's, it is still very common today and is offered by many manufacturers. The boards can be stacked on top of each other; for this purpose they have a connector strip with 104 contacts on one board edge.
PC/104 boards can also be plugged onto carrier boards. PC/104 modules use x86 series central processing units( CPU) or PowerPCs as processors.
With PC/104 plus, the increasing need for contacts has been taken into account. This PC/104 version has beside the 104- pin connector for the ISA bus another 120-pin connector for the PCI bus.
In the new century, the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group( PICMG) then pushed ahead with standardization and eliminated the ISA bus from the PC/104 and developed the standards towards the PCI-X. This bus system is well known under the name of "PCI-X ". This bus system is known as ePCI-X, where the "e" stands for embedded.
