Synkro protocol

The remote controls used in consumer electronics usually work with infrared light. The Synkro protocol and ZigBee Remote Control(ZRC) offer themselves as radio-technical alternatives.

As far as the Synkro protocol is concerned, it originated from an initiative of Freescale, a manufacturer of consumer electronics. For this purpose, the open platform "'RF Entertainment Control Network Technology" was developed, whose specifications are generally accessible. One part of this platform is the "Entertainment Control Networking Layer" with the Synkro protocol. The protocol stack is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 specifications and includes a higher level of user convenience for all consumer electronics devices: DVD players, televisions, set-top boxes, audio equipment, etc.

Unlike IR techniques, the "RF Entertainment Control Network Technology" platform supports bidirectional communication between consumer electronics devices and does not require line-of-sight communication like the latter. It understands as a basis for a universal remote control for any consumer electronic devices.
