application identifier (chipcard) (AID)

The Application Identifier (AID) identifies an application on a smart card. The application identifier is a 5 to 16 byte long identifier that can be part of a dedicated file( DF) and that makes the dedicated file unique worldwide. Application identifiers are standardized by the International Standards Organization( ISO) under ISO 7816 (-5) and distinguish national and international identifiers. It knows two data fields: the Registered Identifier (RID) and the Proprietary Identifier( PID).
