device type manager (DTM)

Device Type Managers(DTM) are device-specific components in Field Device Tools( FDT). The FDT concept is about the exchange of information between field devices for the purpose of parameterization and configuration.

Device Type Managers serve information exchange via the defined interfaces in this concept. They read the configuration data of the field devices and can also parameterize them.

Device Type Managers are software components supplied by the manufacturer with the systems, they contain all user dialogs, support complex operations as well as the diagnostic tools, know the communication options and can read the variables from and into the field device.
