errored frame indicator (ATM) (EFI)

Errored Frame Indicator(EFI) is one of several control messages for the Operation, Administration, and Maintenance( OAM) in ATM networks.

The EFI message is transmitted if the 8B/10B coding was not used according to the rules during the transmission of ATM cells. The message results in an alarm signal indicating that an error was detected during transmission.

The Errored Frame Indicator (EFI) was specified by the ATM Forum in the User Network Interface( UNI).
