freeze

Freeze means to freeze. This technique is used in television technology and is used to freeze a still image using a frame grabber.

The Freeze technique can be used to capture and freeze a selected video frame from a video sequence. Images of high quality in terms of resolution, color depth, etc. may suffer quality degradation in freeze mode, namely when the freeze technique operates with a lower bandwidth than the normal television display.

Standby mode in power management, where important PC components such as the processor, the display or the hard disk are switched to an economy mode, is also referred to as freeze.
