generic object oriented substation event (61850) (GOOSE)

Communication between the various components of automation technology is specified in the international standard IEC 61850. This involves network control technology, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition( SCADA), and Intelligent Electronic Devices( IED). Communication is about the transmission of fast samples and GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) messages.

GOOSE describes a real-time capable transport protocol with which the components are controlled via Ethernet networks. GOOSE sends messages about the device state to all connected devices at regular intervals in multicast. State changes are also transmitted for error correction. This state information is transmitted directly via Ethernet and can be assigned a priority. The prioritizations include the handling of the data packets by switches and routers. For example, the shortest possible delay time can be selected as prioritization.
