government open systems interconnection profile (GOSIP U.K.)

The EU Council decision from the 1980s was implemented in the individual countries by developing an OSI protocol architecture under the name Government OSI Profile( GOSIP). In the meantime, a European manual is also available( EPHOS).

The United Kingdom has made the most technical progress in implementing this resolution and has already specified the corresponding procurement guidelines (GOSIP U.K.) in the form of a protocol architecture. GOSIP U.K. currently provides for Virtual Terminal( VT), File Transfer Access and Management( FTAM) and X.400 as OSI protocols on the application-oriented layers, and X.25 and various LAN alternatives on the lower layers. It is interesting to note that both connectionless and connection-oriented network service is specified.
