information element (IE)

Information elements (IE) are data for controlling communication. In many protocols, information elements are contained in the management frame and transmit descriptive information between the devices. In WLANs according to IEEE 802.11, 802.11 frames contain several information elements in TLV format (Type, Length, Value) including the Organization Unique Identifier ( OUI) and the data.
