loop initialization primitive (FC) (LIP)

Loop Initialization Primitive (LIP) is a primitive in an arbitrated loop, FC-AL, which is used to initialize the loop.

The LIP functions of the initialization include a procedure in which all nodes receive their own addresses, for this purpose the individual nodes of a loop identify themselves and request an address for communication. Furthermore, the Loop Initialization Primitive indicates errors within the loop and executes the recovery. During the initialization phase, no data can be transferred via the loop.
