open building information exchange (security) (oBIX)

With Open Building Information Exchange (oBIX), the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) has standardized a web service for communication between control systems in commercial buildings.

Specifically, it involves communication between mechanical and electrical control and monitoring equipment and enterprise applications. The oBIX protocol uses web services to support the exchange of information between these systems. This allows the individual components to be treated and controlled as participants in a machine-to-machine communication. oBIX defines object-oriented XML files for this purpose, which are transmitted via HTTP and the Simple Object Access Protocol( SOAP).

The oBIX technology is especially interesting for low-cost control systems and those working with embedded systems, since these do not support TCP/ IP and do not work with the field buses and protocols developed for building automation, such as BACnet, LonWorks or Modbus.
