policy information base (QoS) (PIB)

The provisioning classes ( PRC) for the configuration of the clients are stored inthe Policy Information Base (PIB). They are used for traffic control in networks and are known both to the policy servers and their Common Open Policy Services( COPS) and to the clients.

The PIB specifications are stored according to defined rules. PIB properties include configuration rules that are defined by roles and are thus independent of the interface, multiple PIB instances that can be used to transfer and represent different configuration rules to the Policy Enforcement Points( PEP).

Structure of the Policy Information Base (PIB)

A Policy Information Base (PIB) is conceptually a tree-shaped namespace in which the branches represent the Provisioning Classes (PRC) and the leaves represent the various Provisioning Instances( PRI). Many provisioning instances can be assigned to a PRC class.
