tracking area (LTE) (TA)

InLTE networks, the whereabouts of subscribers, the Tracking Areas(TA), are managed by the Mobility Management Entity ( MME), which is directly connected to the Home Subscriber Server( HSS).

Multiple LTE radio cells can be grouped together to form a Tracking Area (TA). To save energy, the subscriber device sends information to the MME instance only when it changes the Tracking Area. There are different tracking updates with which the whereabouts of the subscriber devices are updated. In addition to the normal tracking area update when the location is changed, there is the combined tracking area update when a connection is released and re-established, and the periodic tracking update.
