wireless datagram protocol (WAP) (WDP)

The Wireless Datagram Protocol (WDP) is responsible for communication between the network layer and the layers above it in the Wireless Application Protocol( WAP).

The WDP protocol supports circuit-switched and packet-switched networks such as the Circuit Switched Data Network (CSDN) or Cellular Digital Packet Data( CDPD), connectionless services, General Packet Radio Service ( GPRS), Short Message Service( SMS) and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data ( USSD) and can be supplemented with the Wireless Control Message Protocol (WCMP).

The WDP protocol has been optimized for mobile communication requirements and offers low bandwidth and high latency.
