GMPLS-controlled Ethernet label switching (GELS)

The GELS initiative was initiated by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF). The aim of these activities is to use GMPLS for Ethernet and thus make Ethernet scalable not only in local networks. All Ethernet resources should be able to be managed dynamically and the requested bandwidth reserved via Label Switched Paths( LSP).

The individual Ethernet switches translate the signaling information into the switching commands and can thus make the required bandwidth available to each port.
