graphics standard
To ensure the compatibility ofgraphics cards and displays, the Video Electronics Standards Association( VESA) is concerned with the standardization of graphic displays, among other things.
The essential characteristics of graphics standards include screen resolution, displayable color depth, refresh rate and aspect ratio. With the increased demands on graphic display, various graphic standards have also developed over the years for standard screens with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and for wide screens.
Most are derived from the VGA format in screen resolution; such as Quater Quadruple Video Graphics Adapter, known as QQVGA format, Quadruple-VGA( QVGA) and Super-VGA( SVGA) and from the XGA format, such as QUXGA, Quadruple-XGA ( QXGA), SUXGA, Super-XGA ( SXGA), Ultra-XGA ( UXGA), Wide-XGA( WXGA), WSXGA and WQUXGA.
