hazard based safety engineering (HBSE)

Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) is a safety concept to increase product safety. It identifies hazardous energy sources and provides solutions to protect equipment users against radiation and other forms of energy.

HBSE principles form the basis of several standards, such as the IEC 62443 series of standards and the IEC 62368-1 safety standard. HBSE measures are safety-related precautions to protect equipment users from electric shocks, noise emissions, electromagnetic radiation, burns and other hazards. In addition, HBSE provides evaluation rules that product manufacturers can demonstrate are in place and take into account known hazards.
