personal health data (IEEE 11073) (PHD)

IEEE11073 standardizes personalhealth data (PHD). It is a set of standards to ensure the interoperability of medical devices for blood pressure, blood glucose, body temperature, electrocardiogram, weight and pulse.

This interoperability is promoted by the Continua Health Alliance. The specifications described in the 11073 standard differ from earlier specifications as the focus shifts to home medical devices and thus a simpler communication model.

The personal health devices (PHDs) covered in 11073 are small, low-cost, battery-powered devices, some with displays and other interfaces. The concept recognizes agents and managers. Agents are the small measurement devices that, by default, communicate only with a manager. Managers are typically personal computers, tablet PCs, or smartphones that communicate with multiple agents.
