rich communication service (messaging) (RCS)

Rich Communication Service (RCS) is a mobile communications service developed by the GSM Association( GSMA) for exchanging information, data, photos and videos during a telephone call.

The RCS services are based on the IPMultimedia Subsystem( IMS). The service is comparable to the short message service( SMS), but differs in that it can also be used to transfer multimedia files. Key features include messaging, person-to-person or group chat, file transfer, content sharing, video telephony, and transmission of geographic data or blacklists.

Rich Communication Services have been enhanced and improved in several releases. This resulted in Rich Communication Suite - Enhanced( RCS-e), which is used by mobile operators worldwide under the name Joyn.
