The Mobile Codes Consortium (MC2) has taken up the cause of increasing the use of 2D code scanning by cell phones in Europe.

The consortium, which consists of several manufacturers, wants to develop standards for scanning 2D codes using cell phones. The consortium, founded in 2007, includes Publicis, Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Gavitec and Neomedia.

The goal is to support a broader use for 2D codes, so that these codes are also used in everyday advertising and billboard advertising.
