The proof of communication is a security service and consists of the originator proof and the recipient proof. Proof of the origin of the information and also of the receipt of the data is thus provided. Both proofs are legally binding.

The proof of communication can be manipulated in many ways during an active attack. For example, by faking a false identity, called a masquerade, so that it is mistaken for another user and can use their rights. Especially in legally binding transactions, denial of communication relationships can cause corresponding damage.

Communication proofs can be avoided by the security mechanisms of digitalsignature and data integrity.
