Region of Interest (ROI) is the area of a photo or graph that is of particular interest. The region of interest can be a specific section of an image or a section of a graph that needs to be evaluated when certain events occur.
The ROI technique can be used in medicine to detect a tumor on an X-ray image, as well as to evaluate the faces of a crowd of people or to provide a detailed representation of recorded traffic situations. In all ROI applications, the point is that the viewer can use image processing to look at, evaluate and analyze image details in greater detail. The advantage can be seen in the fact that bandwidth can be saved and the frame rate increased when evaluating a section of the image.
The ROI area can be displayed with a higher resolution and thus better evaluated.
