ubiquitous sensor network (USN)

A Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN) is an omnipresent sensor network that can span the globe. USN networks typically employ intelligent sensors, smart sensors, that sense physical quantities, process them according to predefined algorithms, and generate corresponding control signals for actuators.

Like other sensor networks, USN networks have a meshed topology and can be extended by additional sensors at any time. They are scalable, fault-tolerant, can bypass failed nodes, are remotely configurable, and can transmit data with the lowest latency.

USN networks are used in security installations, video surveillance, access systems, street lighting, and monitoring and control systems. They can be extended with Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks(WSAN) and be part of the Internet of Things( IoT).
